Qatar’s Consumer Price index Reduces by 0.84% in October 2019

The Consumer Price Index in Qatar recorded a reduction of 107.52 points last October (base year 2013), a decrease of 0.83% compared with the preceding month September 2019, and a decrease of 0.84% over the year ended October 2018.

A report made by the Qatar Planning and Statistics Authority showed that the reduction for the month came from the drop in seven groups constituting the index as follows: the entertainment and culture (-2.6%), transport (-1.92%), commodities and other utilities (-0.71%), housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuel types (-0.26%), garments and footwear (-0.16%).

On the other hand, restaurants and Hotels rose to record 0.63%, followed by furniture and house appliances by 0.11%, while tobacco and education remained unchanged.

Regarding the annual variances, the reduction came from seven groups as follows: garments and footwear (-3.95%), entertainment and culture (-3.83%), transport (-2.03%), housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuel types (-1.90%), food and beverage (-1.13%), telecom (-0.11%) and health (-0.07%).

As for the increases over the year, it occurred in five groups as follows: tobacco 127.19%, commodities and other utilities 3.38%, restaurants and hotels 1.54%, education 0.93%, furniture and house appliances 0.04%.

Considering the Consumer Price Index for last October after excluding the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuel types, it reached 108.42 points registering a decrease by 0.98% compared with September 2019 and 0.55% compared with October 2018.
