Chief Executive Officer of Qatar
Petroleum: Qatar Production of Natural Liquefied Gas Will
Increase By 64% to 126 Million Tons Per Annum by 2027
25 November 2019
Qatar Petroleum (QP) announced that it will
increase Qatar’s production capacity of the natural liquefied
gas to 126 million tons annually. This will represent an
increase of 64% above the current production level of 77 million
tons per annum.
The announcement was included in a statement
made by HE Eng. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, State Minister of Energy,
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Qatar
Petroleum. Mr. Al-Kaabi stated that the technical tests had
shown the expansion of the gas layers feeding North well to the
depths of the Qatari lands in Ras Laffan; which will allow the
development of a new project for the production of the natural
liquefied gas North Qatar.
HE Mr. Al-Kaabi, in a press conference held on this
occasion, said “Qatar Petroleum has worked hard on a plan over
the past two years to discover the expansion of the North well
toward south west and to further identify the possibility of
production from the coastal areas
north Qatar. I am pleased to announce today that our
surveys were resulted in excellent outcomes as the technical
tests of the experimental wells confirmed the expansion of the
gas layers feeding the North Field to the depths of the Qatari
land in Ras Laffan and the possibility of producing huge
quantities of gas from this new district”
It is worth-noting that the most recent evaluation well
in the North field is (NF-12), which was drilled in Ras Laffan
Industrial Zone, 12km from the shore, has undergone extensive
tests over the past few months.
HE, the Minister announced also during the press
conference that the fixed quantities of gas contained in the
North field exceed 1760 trillion cubic feet of gas, in addition
to more than 70 billion barrel of the condensates and huge
quantities of the liquefied petroleum gas, ethane and helium
gas.
HE Al-Kaabi added “These findings are highly important
and positive indications that will move the Qatari gas industry
to new positions as they will enable us to immediately commence
the basic engineering works for a new project containing two
mega production lines for the producing natural liquefied gas at
a production capacity rate of 16 billion tons per annum. This
will increase our production from 77 billion tons to 126 billion
tons per annum by 2027, an increase of 64%. With that, Qatar
total production from Hydrocarbons will reach nearly 6.7 billion
barrel of equivalent oil per day.
HE Mr. Al-Kaabi, State Minister of Energy, the Managing
Director and the CEO of Qatar Petroleum took the opportunity to
express, on his behalf and on behalf of all Qatar Petroleum
employees, his thanks and gratitude to HH, Sheikh Tamim Bin
Hamad Al Thani, The Emir of the State of Qatar, for his wise
leadership, prudent guidance and continued support to the energy
sector in the State of Qatar.
