Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) Announces the Completion of Necessary Financial Arrangements with the International Financiers Participating in Financing the Expansion Project of Umm Al-Houl Power Plant

Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) stated that Umm Al-Houl Power has announced the financial closure and completion of the necessary financial arrangements with the international financiers involved in financing the expansion of Umm Al-Houl Poer Plant, with a production capacity of 61.45 million gallons of reverse osmosis desalinated water.

The current production capacity of Umm Al-Houl is 2520 megawatt (MW) of electricity and 136.5 million imperial gallons (MIGD) of water. This expansion will contribute in increasing the capacity of additional water by 197.95 MIGD. The total production of the plant will amount to 40% of Qatar's water and 30% of electricity. And it will be one of the largest power plants and desalinated water producers in the Middle East.

The expansion project of Umm Al Houl Water Plant with reverse osmosis technology is scheduled to commence in April 2021 and will continue until 2043 in the long run, along with the current production of the plant. Umm Al-Houl Plant is one of the pillars of the supply of electricity and water in the State of Qatar that aligns with the policy-guidelines of Qatar’s National Vision 2030.
