Qatar’s Consumer Price index Reduces by 0.47% in
February 2020 on a Yearly Basis

The Consumer Price Index in the State of Qatar recorded
a slight monthly increase of 0.04% last February compared to the
preceding month January, however reduced by 0.47% on a yearly basis
compared to February 2019 where it has settled at 98.42 points.
This revision to the consumer price index issued by the
Qatar Planning and Statistics Authority is considered the second based
on the year 2018 as a base year and in view of the findings dragged from
the family income and spending survey for 2018-2017.
The Authority data indicate that the monthly increase
was due to the increase witnessed by six groups constituting the index
as follows: transportation 2.26%, food stuff and beverages 0.51%,
garments 0.43%, education 0.24%, commodities & other services 0.24% and
furniture and house appliances 0.05%.
Three groups registered varied reductions in
prices as follows: entertainment and culture 3.54%, housing, water,
electricity, gas and other types of fuel 0.16% and restaurants and
hotels 0.13%. However prices of tobacco, health and telecom groups
remained stable.
The data also showed that the annual
reduction was owing to the decline of five groups being: entertainment
and culture 6.8%, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuel types
3.84%, telecom 2.44%, garments and footwear 1.72% and the furniture and
house appliances 0.44%.
Moreover, six groups registered annual
increases and was led by transport group (4.83%), followed by
restaurants and hotels 4.82%, health group 3.07%, commodities & other
services 1.77%, education group 1.18% and food and beverages group 1.00%
with no change on tobacco group.
By excluding the housing, water,
electricity, gas and other fuel types, the index reached 99.46 recording
and increase of 0.09% on a monthly basis compared to January 2020 and an
increase of 0.52% over February 2019.
