Balance Scores Surplus of QAR 13.6 Billion Last Month February

Qatari Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) has issued its
preliminary report on the external trade for the month of February 2020.
The report included data on exports (of local origin and re-export) and
imports. Below is a summary
of the data published in the PSA report:
Total Qatari exports (including exports of local origin and
re-export) during February 2020 amounted nearly QAR 21.3 billion, a
decline of 5.2% vis-à-vis February 2019, and a decline of 4.6% versus
January 2020.
Commodity imports during February 2020 was reduced by 8.9% to near
QAR 7.7 billion compared to February 2019, and a decrease by 21.7%
compared to January 2020.
Accordingly, the commodity trade balance, which represents the
difference between total exports and total imports during February 2020,
has achieved a surplus of QAR 13.6 billion, recording a decrease
of 3.0% (QAR 0.4 billion) compared to the equivalent month 2019, and an
increase of 9.0% (QAR1.1 billion) over the preceding month January 2020.
Compared to January 2020, the value of the exports of petroleum gas
and other hydro carbonic gases (representing Liquefied Natural Gas,
Condensates, Propane, Butane … etc.) declined by 4.3% to nearly QAR 13.8
billion, whilst the value of the petroleum oils and raw bituminous
mineral oils materials declined by 6.4% to roughly QAR 3.1 billion.
Moreover, the value of the exports of petroleum oils and oils extracted
from non-raw bituminous mineral materials reduced by 32.9% amounting
nearly QAR 1.1 billion.
In terms of the major destination-exports countries, Japan has
occupied the lead position for Qatari exports during February 2020,
through an exportation value of nearly QAR 3.8 billion representing
18.0% of the total Qatari exports. Followed by India of QAR 3.3 billion
representing 15.7%, and South Korea by QAR 2.8 billion representing
13.2% of the total Qatari exportation value.
During, Feb 2020, ‘ordinary aircrafts spare parts and helicopters
parts’ category, topped the commodities imports list for a total amount
of QAR 0.3 billion, declining by 30.2%, followed by ‘automobile designed
basically for passengers transportation’ group by QAR 0.27 billion
declining by 21.4%, followed by ‘electric appliances for wire telephones
and telegraphs including network transmitting devices and their parts’
group which was conversely increased by 0.9% to QAR 0.21 billion during
the month compared to Feb 2019.
In terms of the country of origin-based-imports, the United States
occupied the lead position of Qatari importation during Feb 2020 for
about QAR 1.1 billion importation representing 13.9% of Qatari total
commodities imports, followed by China for QAR 0.9 billion, representing
11.4% and the United Kingdom for QAR 0.6 billion representing 7.9% of
the total importation.
