Umm Al Houl Power Company Announces Completing 93% of
Umm Al-Hall Project Works
September 17, 2017
Jamal Al Khalaf, CEO of Umm
Al Houl Power Company, a subsidiary of Qatar Electricity and
Water Co. (QEWC), announced the completion of 93% of the QAR 11
billion Umm Al Houl Power Station.
The station’s power
generation capacity amounts to 136 million gallons of water a
day and 2,520 megawatts (MW) of electricity, the CEO said on
Sunday, according to a filing to the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE).
The power plant supplies
Qatar with about 1,600 MW of electricity and 60 million gallons
of water per day pumped into the Qatar General
Electricity & Water Corporation’s (Kahramaa) network, he added.
Al Khalaf noted that the
project completed 38 million working hours successfully without
exposing any of its 15,000 workers in the project to injury,
according to the statement.
The political rift that
took place between Qatar and several Gulf and Arab states has
not affected operations at the power plant, the CEO said, noting
that some equipment relevant to the project was shipped to Qatar
through Kuwaiti and Omani ports.
Umm Al Houl Power Company,
which is 60%-owned by QEWC, secures 25% of Qatar’s electricity
needs and 30% of its water needs.
