6.4  billion riyals surplus in the trade balance of the State of Qatar in September 2020

The Planning and Statistics Authority issued its preliminary report on foreign trade statistics for the month of September 2020, as the report includes data on exports (of domestic origin and re-exports) and imports, and the following is a brief presentation of the data:
During the month of September 2020, the value of total Qatari exports (which includes exports of local origin and re-exports) amounted to approximately 13.4 billion Qatari riyals, which is considered as a decrease of 33.7% compared to September 2019, and a decrease of 4.4% compared to August 2020.
On the other hand, the value of merchandise imports decreased during September 2020, to about 7.0 billion Qatari riyals, a decrease of 6.4% compared to September 2019, and a decrease of 1.9% compared to August 2020. 
In light of this, the merchandise trade balance, which represents the difference between total exports and imports during the month of September 2020, achieved a surplus of 6.4 billion Qatari riyals, registering a decrease of 6.4 billion Qatari riyals, or 49.7% compared to the same month of the previous year 2019, and a decrease of approximately 0.5 billion Qatari riyals, or 7.0%, compared to August 2020.
In comparison between September 2020 and September 2019, the value of exports of “oil gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons” which represent (liquefied natural gas, condensate, propane, butane, etc.) decreased by 33.5% to reach about 8.2 billion Qatari riyals, and the value decreased of “petroleum oils and oils of continental mineral raw materials" by 42.0% to reach approximately 1.9 billion Qatari riyals. The value of exports of "petroleum oils and oils obtained from non-raw continental mineral materials "decreased by 54.7% to reach about 0.8 billion Qatari riyals.
At the level of exports per the main destination countries, India ranked first in the destination countries in relation to the exports of the State of Qatar during the month of September 2020 with a value of approximately 2.4 billion Qatari riyals, or 18.0% of the total value of Qatari exports, followed by China with a value of approximately 2.1 billion Qatari riyals, i.e. a rate of 15.4% of the total value of exports, followed by Japan with a value of approximately 1.7 billion Qatari riyals, or 12.9%.
In comparison between September 2020 and September 2019, the group of "regular aircraft or helicopter parts" came on top of the list of commodity imports, with a value of 0.22 billion Qatari riyals, a decrease of 26.3%, followed by a group of "jet turbines and propellers, other gas turbines and parts thereof, by about 0.21 billion Qatari riyals, down by 62.3%, then the group of “cars and other vehicles designed mainly for transporting people”, with a value of approximately 0.20 billion Qatari riyals, a decrease of 29.1%.
In terms of imports according to the main countries of origin, China ranked first in the countries of origin in terms of imports to the State of Qatar during the month of September 2020, with a value of approximately 1.6 billion Qatari riyals, or 22.3% of the total value of merchandise imports, then the United States of America with a value of 0.7 billion Qatari riyals, or 10.7 %, Followed by India with a value of 0.4 billion Qatari riyals, or 5.9%.
