“Nakilat” has completed the second phase of the transition of the technical and operational management of its fleet from “Shell International Trading and Shipping Ltd.” (Shell), whereby seven LNG vessels identified in the second phase have been transferred to its internal management.
On 27 October 2020, the Q-Max LNG vessel “Lijmiliya” was the seventh and last vessel to transfer its management to “Nakilat Shipping Qatar Ltd.” in the second phase of the transfer of the technical and operational management of ships, bringing the size of the fleet of ships managed by “Nakilat” to 26 vessels, consisting of 22 LNG vessels and 4 LPG ships.
In this regard, Nakilat has worked closely with Shell over the past years on a set of plans to ensure the provision of safe and smooth transportation in all administrative and technical aspects of ships. It is worth noting that Nakilat is an important and major link in the supply and supply chain of liquefied natural gas in Qatar, and it mainly contributes to supplying the world with clean and safe energy. These strategic plans are in line with Qatar's future aspirations for economic diversification and growth in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
Al Sulaiti added, “Over the past years, Nakilat has achieved record leaps and bounds in growth thanks to the continuous expansion of our fleet of LNG vessels, which is the largest fleet in the world. Centrally managing our vessels from within the State of Qatar will allow us to make greater use of our strategic relationship with the largest charterer of our ships, (Qatargas) to achieve operational efficiency and reduce costs. I am pleased to commend the joint cooperation by Qatargas during these phases and the continuous support in all aspects of the business relationship we cherish. We also strive to continue our path through carefully crafted strategies, seize long-term growth opportunities, and enhance the operational and technical management capabilities of ships, in accordance with our vision to be a leading and distinguished global company in the field of energy transportation and the provision of various marine services. ”
The first phase of transferring the operational and technical management of the fleet between Nakilat and Shell, which included 10 LNG vessels, began in late 2016 and was completed in August 2017. It is noteworthy that Nakilat’s fleet includes a number of the largest and most LNG vessels. Technologically advanced, its cargo provides energy to millions of people around the world. Shell will continue to manage 8 LNG vessels until the final stage of the transition process for technical and operational management of these vessels begins in the near future.
