The merchandise trade balance of the State of Qatar, which represents the difference between total exports and imports, achieved a surplus of 7.0 billion riyals last October, recording a decline of about 4.6 billion riyals, or 39.6 percent compared to the same month of the year 2019, but it achieved an increase of about 0.6 billion riyals, which is the equivalent to 9.5 percent, compared to September 2020.
According to a report by the Planning and Statistics Authority on the state's foreign trade, the value of Qatari exports (which includes exports of local origin and re-exports) amounted to approximately 15.3 billion riyals in October this year, a decrease of 23.5 percent compared to the same month of 2019, an increase of 14.1 percent compared to September 2020.
The value of merchandise imports decreased to reach about 8.3 billion riyals, a decrease of 1.0 percent compared to October 2019, and an increase of 18.3 percent compared to September 2020.
The data indicate a decrease in the value of exports of "oil gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons" by 18.1 percent last October to reach about 9.7 billion riyals, compared to the same month of the year 2019, while the value of "petroleum oils and crude mineral oils" decreased by 39.6 percent to reach approximately 2.1 billion riyals.
In addition, the value of exports of "petroleum oils and oils obtained from non-raw continental mineral materials" decreased by 62.4 percent to reach about 0.5 billion riyals.
India ranked first in Qatar's exports in October this year, with a total value of approximately 2.6 billion riyals, or 16.6 percent of the total value of Qatari exports, followed by Japan with nearly 2.3 billion riyals, or 14.8 percent of the total value of exports, then China, worth nearly 2.3 billion riyals, or 14.8 percent.
The group of “jet turbines and propellers, other gas turbines and parts thereof” came to the top of the list of commodity imports, recording 0.6 billion riyals, an increase of 46.0 percent compared to October 2019, followed by a group of “ordinary aircraft or helicopter parts” by about 0.3 billion riyals, a decrease of 20.4 percent, then The group "Cars and other automobiles designed mainly to transport people", which registered nearly 0.2 billion riyals, a decrease of 60.3 percent.
For its part, the United States of America ranked first in the countries of origin in terms of imports to the State of Qatar during the month of October this year, with a value of approximately 1.2 billion riyals, or 14.7 percent of the total value of merchandise imports, then China with a value of 1.0 billion riyals, or 12.0 percent, followed by India with a value of 0.5 billion, or 5.8 percent of the total imports.
