Nakilat has received the newly built "Global Star" LNG transport vessel, which will be managed commercially and technically by Nakilat. This vessel, built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, is the second of four new LNG vessels to be delivered under the joint venture agreement “Global Shipping Limited” between Nakilat and the Greek company “Maran”. Under this agreement, Nakilat owns a 60% stake in the new company, while Maran owns a 40% stake.
It is worth noting that Nakilat took over safely the first of the new ships, "Global Energy", in May of this year. With the receipt of the four new LNG vessels, the number of Nakilat vessels will increase to 74 vessels, which constitutes approximately 12% of the total global LNG transport capacity.
On this occasion, Eng. Abdullah bin Fadhalah Al-Sulaiti, CEO of Nakilat, said: “We welcome Nakilat to add the “ Global Star ”ship to our fleet of ships to transport the largest liquefied natural gas in the world, which is a newly built vessel equipped with the latest developments. This technology will allow us to provide additional capacity and flexibility for our customers and give us a greater competitive advantage in this dynamic market. This important achievement is a testament to the capabilities that Nakilat has in ship management and a confirmation of our global leadership position in the field of energy transportation. Nakilat has made remarkable achievements in the recent period by completing the process of transferring fleet management to seven LNG vessels and delivering two new newly built vessels within one year, in addition to moving forward with its long-term strategic growth as part of the efforts to rationalize costs and thus increase returns to our shareholders. . "
Al-Sulaiti added, "The energy sector is witnessing a remarkable transformation in the field of shipbuilding and management technology, as this has been taken into account through the four ships being constructed in South Korea of large size with a carrying capacity of 173,400 cubic meters per vessel, with diesel engines for propulsion with gas injection." ME-GI for two ships and diesel engines for gas mixing propulsion X-DF for the other two vessels, and both types of engines are considered state-of-the-art in shipbuilding technology. These ships also feature a modern structural design, use other advanced technologies, and reinforce Nakilat's position as the world leader in clean energy transmission.
