The consumer price index in Qatar rises by 2.47% in May 2021 year on year

The Planning and Statistics Authority issued the Consumer Price Index for the month of May 2021, and the index reached 98.05 points, recording an increase of 0.83% compared to the previous month, April 2021, and an increase of 2.47% compared to the corresponding month (May) of 2020.
When comparing the main components of the index for the month of May 2021 with the previous month, April 2021 (monthly change), it becomes clear that there is an increase in five groups, a decrease in four other groups, and a stability of in two groups.
The increase was noticed in the entertainment and culture group by 10.97%, followed by the clothing and footwear group by 2.77%, the other goods and services group by 1.10%, the food and beverage group by 1.09%, and the furniture and household appliances group by 0.09%. On the other hand, the transportation group decreased by 1.46%, followed by the restaurants and hotels group by 1.23%, the housing group, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.74%, and the education group by 0.06%. As for the tobacco, health, and communications groups, no change was registered from the previous month (April 2021).
When comparing the month of May 2021 with the corresponding month in 2020 (annual change), it was found that there was an increase in the general index by 2.47%, which is the result of the arising increase in eight groups: the transportation group by 13.15%, followed by the restaurants and hotels group by 5.60 %, the communications group by 4.03%, the group of other goods and services by 3.93%, the education group by 3.72%, the food and beverage group by 3.46%, the furniture and home appliances group by 3.27%, the entertainment and culture group by 2.28%, and as for the annual decreases, they occurred In three groups: housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group by 6.17%, clothing and shoes group by 3.31%, health group by 0.07%, and there was no change in the tobacco group.
By calculating the consumer price index for the month of May 2021, after excluding the group of housing, water, electricity, gas and other types of fuel, it reached a point of 100.85, recording an increase of 1.20%, compared to the previous month (April 2021), and by 4.72% from May 2020.
