Communications Regulatory Authority imposes financial sanctions on Ooredoo amounting to 3.5 million riyals

The Financial Sanctions Committee of the Communications Regulatory Authority imposed financial penalties on the telecom company "Ooredoo", amounting to 3.5 million riyals for violating the instructions issued by the authority.
Under Resolution No. (1) of 2021, the Committee imposed a financial sanction on “Ooredoo” of two million Qatari riyals, due to the company’s failure to comply with the applicable rules regarding access and interconnection between licensed service providers, and in particular because of the company’s refusal to provide access to its international communication facilities at the Kheesa Cable Landing Station and the “Ooredoo 5” Data Center.
According to Resolution No. (4) of 2021, the Committee imposed another financial penalty on “Ooredoo” company, amounting to one million five hundred thousand Qatari riyals, due to the company’s failure to comply with its obligations related to applying to the Authority to obtain its prior approval of the tariffs for fixed telecommunication services. So, “Ooredoo” broke the instructions issued by the Authority regarding consumer protection and the instructions regarding non-competitive practices., the non-compliance of “Ooredoo” prevents specifically the verification of the legitimacy of the offers provided by the company in the fixed telecom market, and prevents customers from being constantly informed of the offers available in The market. Therefore, the behavior of "Ooredoo" company misleads customers and prevents them from benefiting from the best prices.
According to the two decisions issued by the committee, the total amount of financial penalties amounted to three million five hundred thousand Qatari riyals.
It is worth noting that the Financial Sanctions Committee was formed based on Cabinet Resolution No. (14) of 2020 to form the Financial Sanctions Committee at the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. The Committee is responsible for imposing one or more of the financial penalties stipulated in Table No. (1) attached to the Telecommunications Law, on the licensee, in the event that he commits a violation of the provisions of the Communications Act, its implementing regulations, decisions or licenses issued for its implementation, in cases other than the crimes and penalties provided for In Chapter Sixteen of the Communications Act.
