36.3 billion riyals surplus in the trade balance of the State of Qatar in September 2022, an increase of 89.9% on an annual basis

The Planning and Statistics Authority issued its preliminary report on foreign trade statistics for the month of September 2022. The report includes data on exports (of local origin and re-exports) and imports. The following is a brief presentation of the data:
During the month of September 2022, the value of the total Qatari exports (which includes exports of local origin and re-exports) amounted to approximately 47.6 billion Qatari riyals, an increase of 70.6% compared to September 2021, and an increase of 1.7% compared to August 2022.
On the other hand, the value of merchandise imports increased during September 2022, reaching about 11.3 billion Qatari riyals, an increase of 28.6% compared to September 2021, and an increase of 7.0% compared to August 2022.
In light of this, the merchandise trade balance, which represents the difference between total exports and imports during September 2022, achieved a surplus of 36.3 billion Qatari riyals, registering an increase of 17.2 billion Qatari riyals, or 89.9% compared to the same month of the previous year. 2021, and an increase of approximately 0.1 billion Qatari riyals, or 0.1%, compared to August 2022.
Comparing between September 2022 and September 2021, the value of exports of “oil gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons”, which represent (liquefied natural gas, condensate, propane, butane, etc..) increased to about 35.4 billion Qatari riyals, or 104.2%, and the value of “oil and oils of bituminous raw mineral materials oils” increased to reach approximately 4.8 billion Qatari riyals, or 34.3%. The value of exports of "petroleum oils and oils obtained from non-crude bituminous minerals" increased to about QR 3.1 billion, or 13.8 percent.
In terms of exports according to the main countries of destination, China ranked first in the countries of destination for Qatar’s exports during the month of September 2022 with a value of approximately QR 0.7 billion, or 14.6% of the total value of Qatari exports, followed by South Korea with a value of approximately QR 5.7 billion, i.e. 12.0% of the total value of exports, followed by India with a value of approximately 5.1 billion Qatari riyals, or 10.6%.
In a comparison between September 2022 and September 2021, the group "jet turbines, propelling turbines, other gas turbines and their parts" came at the top of the list of merchandise imports, with a value of 0.8 billion Qatari riyals, an increase of 2.4%, followed by the group "cars and other mainly designed vehicles for transporting people” with a value of 0.4 billion Qatari riyals, an increase of 34.1%, and the group of “other parts for regular aircraft or helicopters” with a value of approximately 0.3 billion Qatari riyals, an increase of 61.0%.
In terms of imports according to the main countries of origin, China ranked first in the countries of origin for the imports of the State of Qatar during the month of September 2022 with a value of approximately QR 1.64 billion, or 14.5% of the total value of merchandise imports, then the United States of America with a value of QR 1.63 billion, or 14.4 %, followed by Turkey with a value of 0.9 billion Qatari riyals, or 8.1%.
