Ooredoo Group announces the appointment of a new CEO for Ooredoo Oman and an acting CEO for Ooredoo Algeria


Ooredoo Q.P.S.C. (“Ooredoo” and its trading symbol is “ORDS”) has announced the appointment of Mr. Bassam Yusuf Al-Ibrahim as the new Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Oman, effective March 1, 2023, to succeed Noor Al-Sulaiti.
Prior to assuming the new position, Mr. Bassam Youssef Al-Ibrahim was the CEO of Ooredoo Algeria. He has extensive professional experience spanning more than 20 years in the telecom sector and has held various leadership positions within the group. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Ooredoo Tunisia.
With Mr. Bassam assuming his new position, he replaces Mrs. Noor Al-Sulaiti, the former CEO of Ooredoo Oman, who has successfully led the company's strategy and business growth since 2021, helping to lay solid foundations for future success.
Ooredoo also announced the appointment of Mr. Rony Tohme, Chief Financial Officer of Ooredoo Algeria, as Acting CEO of the company during the current period, to succeed Mr. Bassam Youssef Al-Ibrahim until a new CEO is appointed.
With more than 20 years of experience in the field of communications and finance, Mr. Rony joined Ooredoo in 2020 as Chief Financial Officer of Ooredoo Algeria, where he helped build a resilient finance department and contributed significantly to the company's digital transformation.
On this occasion, Mr. Aziz Al-Othman Fakhro, Managing Director and CEO of Ooredoo Group, said: “Since joining Ooredoo in 2013, Bassam has been responsible for achieving many important achievements in several senior positions. There is no doubt that his distinguished professional experience will support his efforts to achieve success in Ooredoo Oman in the future. I wish him success in his new position. During his tenure as CEO of Ooredoo Algeria, Mr. Bassam succeeded in leading the company to overcome the challenges and impacts of the pandemic and achieve great successes, including the implementation of a major network modernization project across the country, which led to a significant increase in the customer base and significant revenue growth on annual basis. Under his leadership, Ooredoo Algeria also scooped a number of accolades, including the Best Employer Award at the Middle East and North Africa Stevie Awards in recognition of its outstanding HR strategy during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company also won the award for Best Environmental and Social Governance Initiative at the Global Communications Awards, in addition to winning many other awards.
