Widam Food Company, the main supplier of meat in the country, announced that it had received a shipment of live Sudanese calves containing 1600 heads, and this is the third and largest shipment that the company imports of live livestock during the month of January, as the company received two previous shipments from Sudan and Australia. The number of imported livestock reaches 70,000 heads, in order to meet all the needs of the local market.
Engineer / Mohamed Al-Sada, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Widam Food Company, said, "In line with our strategy that aims to support the food safety plans of the State of Qatar, we have coordinated with major livestock exporters in a number of countries that are distinguished by the quality of their products and their competitive prices, in order to diversify the sources of import, with the aim of providing all the local market needs of live livestock and chilled meat.
He continued, "It is planned that the volume of trading with the Republic of Sudan will reach 150 million riyals during the current year, as trading will include importing live livestock and chilled meat."
Mr. Al Sada stressed that the company is preparing a strategic stock of basic commodities (live livestock, chilled and frozen meat), to ensure their availability in the local market.
The Widam Company has contracted to import more than 90,000 head of sheep and calves, to be supplied to the local market during the month of March 2021, as live livestock and chilled meats, in order to meet the needs of consumers during the holy month of Ramadan.
It is noteworthy that the company has recently supplied a number of Roman sheep and calves shipments, in addition to providing various varieties of Arab sheep and meat from Australia, South Africa, Argentina, India and Pakistan in the local market throughout the year, in order to meet all consumers' needs.
It is worth noting that in addition to supplying meat and sheep in the local market, Widam Company manages and operates the latest automated slaughterhouse of its kind in the Middle East, located in the central market of Al-Wakra, and also operates 7 other slaughterhouses, as well as owns 15 butcheries distributed in all regions of the country.
